Zelma
Elaine McLemore
Known
around Goodwill by her middle name, Elaine is truly a woman
walking by Faith.
Born in the City of Angels (Los Angeles), she’s the
youngest child of Zelma Mae Robinson and Thomas McLemore, Sr.
With three older siblings bossing her around Elaine learned
quickly how to take charge of a situation and make the best of
it.
Elaine’s Mother was a Psychologist whose work took her all
over the United States and several foreign countries. When she
was just six years old, Elaine had a chance to travel overseas,
to the Philippines and she attended school in Hawaii.
Upon their return to the states, the family settled in
Sacramento and Elaine continued her education there. A move to
Seattle found her attending Sharples Jr. High and Queen Ann High
School. When the sunshine of California beckoned again she moved
back to the Sacramento area and attended North Highland High
School and completed 2 years of college.
In 1984 Elaine began working for the Internal Revenue Service
and moved back to Seattle in 1987 to accept a job in the local
office.
Elaine recently completed an AA Degree in Theology at the AL
Hardy Academy and will continue her studies until to obtain a
Bachelor of Arts.
She became a member of Goodwill in November of 2001 and
serves as Vice President of Bible Class and works diligently on
the Scholarship Committee.
Elaine is the proud mother of:

and sings in the Youth Choir.
Kristin – 6, who sings in the Angel Choir and the Men’s
Chorus
Lanea – 2, who, like her brothers loves music and can’t wait
to join the Angel Choir
Elaine’s favorite scripture – Psalms 118 – O give
thanks unto the Lord, for He is good: because His mercy endureth
forever. |
Jessie "Terry" Brown
After
53 years of being a "doorkeeper" at Goodwill
Baptist Church, Sis. Jessie "Terry" Brown hung up
her uniform and white gloves.
Terry was born in Lake Village, Arkansas and raised in
Prescott, AK. Her spiritual journey began in 1940 when she
accepted Christ and united with the Second Baptist Church in
Prescott.
The vivacious Terry caught the eye of a tall handsome
young man named Frank Brown and they were soon married.
Franks need to support his new bride in a manner better
than the economics of Prescott allowed lead him to Seattle.
Terry followed in 1946.
The Browns joined Goodwill in 1949 and Terry joined the
Usher Board immediately.
They were blessed with 3 children: Coleman, Herman, and
Linda. Their children have blessed them with 13 grandkids
and I great-grand.
Terry’s Mother, Elizabeth Johnson came to live with
them in the 80’s and she spent a lot of her time taking
care of her and helping out her children by babysitting.
Frank went home to be with the Lord in 1997.
Terry has been an inspiration to all her meet her. She
has a wonderful personality and loves to make people smile.
Even though you won’t see her on the floor anymore she’s
still working for the Lord.

Evelyn
Hooper
Evelyn
Hooper has a smile that will melt your heart. Her outgoing and
loving personality is evident as she ministers at Goodwill in
several auxiliaries.
She’s been a member of Goodwill for 43 years and currently
serves as the secretary of the Senior Choir and in the
Hospitality Ministry.
Evelyn is a Georgia peach having burst on the scene in
Eastman, Georgia. The family later moved to St. Petersburg,
Florida, and then to Chattanooga, Tennessee where Evelyn
obtained her schooling. She also attended Bible School in
Memphis, Tennessee.
She is the proud mother of six, grandmother of 19, and
great-grandmother of 3. She is a true woman of God and the
fruits of her labor are evident; you can find her children and
grandchildren working all around the church just as hard as she
does.
Even though Evelyn is at the age when most Grandmas are
retired, she decided that being around young people was the key
to staying young. So don’t look for her hanging out in any
Senior Citizen Center. She works at the Happy Zone Day Care
Center where she can love and nurture young children and fill
their tummies with "mmm" good food.
Evelyn’s personal quote: "Thru
Christ all things are possible. There is no goal too high for
you, you just have to believe and wait on God."

joined the Job Corps and pursued an LVN degree.
In 1975 she returned to Seattle but her heavy work schedule

Moses
Carter
Moses
is dressed to kill in this picture but most times when he is
around the church he's dressed for some serious work.
You'll usually catch him with a hammer or
screwdriver in his hand ready to work.
Bro. Moses Carter comes by that work ethic honestly. He comes
from a family of hard workers. Born
in Homer, Louisiana, he traveled to the Pacific Northwest with
his Mother, two brothers and a nephew in 1944. They were hot on
the heals of his Father and brother who had traveled this way in
1943 looking for work.
His Mother and Father, Arthur and Nobie Carter were blessed
with 11 children. Moses came in as child #7. Moses
began his schooling in Homer and graduated from Seattle’s
Franklin High School. He’s a Quaker through and through.
Moses’ first church was Brighton Gospel Tabernacle. He
joined Goodwill in 1972 with his lovely wife Elinor. She has
endured 36 years of his non-stop working. She knows how to slow
him down though, she cooks up a batch of her famous rolls.
In his spare time he loves to bowl and fish. His favorite
fishing hole is Big Lake in Mt. Vernon. You’ll find him
picking his ball out of the gutter at Skyway and Imperial Lanes
in Seattle.
His favorite scripture is Psalms 27. |
James
Foster
|
James
Foster is one of the hardest working members at Goodwill. He
serves as Superintendent of the Sunday School, works with the
Sunshine Corps Ministry, he’s the Program Chairman of the Men’s
Day Ministry and Program Chairman of the Mission Ministry.
He’s been a member of Goodwill since 1983
having joined under the leadership of Rev. Levi B. Baldwin.
James was born in Spokane,
Washington to Johnny Fred Foster & Ida Mae Foster
(Whittaker). He has 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
The family moved to Seattle in 1968 and James
completed his schooling at Ingraham High School. He also
attended Seattle Community College.
In his spare time he loves attending the
latest movies, visiting friends and eating out. His favorite
restaurants are The Old Country Buffet and Sizzlers Steak House.
James is an inspiration to many at Goodwill.
Through rain sleet and sometimes snow, he makes his way to the
church by way of public transportation. You’ll find him there
on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday nights taking care of his duties.
He also appears on Saturday afternoon to set up for Sunday
School.
His favorite scripture is Psalms 8 - 3 &
4 When I consider thy
heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which
thou hast ordained; What is
man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou
visitest him? |
Yvonne
Coleman
Born
to Cerra and Maude Slade in Marshall, Texas, Yvonne Coleman was
the youngest of twelve children and also a twin. A Garfield High
School graduate, she joined Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church
in 1974 where she has been a faithful servant.
Unknown to many, Sis. Coleman is a musician.
Back in the day, she played for the Angel Choir (red robes), the
Usherettes and she sang with the Senior Choir.
Currently she is on the Deaconess Board and serves on the Senior
Usher Board.
If you hear a lot of commotion going on in
the back of the church, it’s usually Sis. Coleman with her
arms out stretched to her God praising Him as the scriptures
have instructed her to do.
She is certainly not ashamed of the Gospel of
Jesus Christ, and knows of his deliverance because he touched
her body and delivered her from Asthma. That deliverance allows
her to work in her garden and walk faithfully every morning.
Yvonne has been married for 41 years to John
C. Coleman. God has blessed them with three children; Calvin,
Deborah, and Denise. Those blessing have produced seven
grandchildren and 1 great.
Her favorite scripture is: Psalms 121: 1

Curtis Midkiff
There
are a lot of cities and towns in the state Louisiana. You
probably know the most popular ones: New Orleans, Baton Rouge,
Monroe, and Alexandria. If you happen to be in the area of
Shreveport (another well known city), check out a little town
called Many (pronounced Man-ee). Many is located south of
Shreveport between Mansfield and Leesville along the banks of
the Sabine River near the Texas state line.
Many is the birthplace of Curtis Midkiff.
Curtis is the third child of Willie and Audry Midkiff. After
graduating from high school he found himself bound for the
great Northwest with his uncle. That was in 1957, the same
year he joined Goodwill Baptist Church.
Curtis has been a faithful member at
Goodwill. He was the first president of the Youth Choir, spent
time as president
of the Young Adult Choir, and is a loyal student in Sunday
School and BTU.
After retiring in 2000 after 29 years as a
Operating Engineer at SeaTac Airport he spends his time on
three of his favorite hobbies, photography, softball, and
motorcycles. Curtis is an avid photographer. On Sunday
mornings you’ll usually find him in the front of the church
filming the worship service. He has also parlayed that hobby
into a lucrative business. Just give him a call and he’ll
tape your wedding, concert, or special event.
He’s not a member of a motorcycle club
and did not appear in the movie "Easy Rider", but he
enjoys his outings on either his Honda or Suzuki motorcycles.
Curtis eagerly awaits the return of the
Goodwill Softball team. Softball has been his passion since he
